Check what the bill is describing
Look at whether the reading is estimated or actual and whether the billing period or household use has changed. A bill can be higher for reasons unrelated to a hidden pipe, so explain those circumstances when contacting the supplier.
Consider water that may still be running
Toilets, storage systems and appliances can use water without an obvious open tap. A shared supply may complicate interpretation further. A professional investigation considers those possibilities as well as buried plumbing.
Keep the supplier correspondence
If the supplier has flagged a possible leak, share its findings and requested next steps. Ask it directly about any assistance or post-repair leakage allowance; eligibility is not automatic. The engineer’s record can help explain the plumbing work performed.
